The Minnesota Wild drafted defenseman Filip Johansson with the 24th overall selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
The 6’0 176 lbs Swedish defenseman is the first round pick for the Minnesota Wild.

First reactions are a little tough. It sounds like the guy was projected to be a second rounder at best. Looks like he had only 9 points in 29 games last year with his team in Sweden. That’s a huge concern for me.
But! New Wild GM Paul Fenton is a wizard with defensemen and that’s proven by looking at who the Nashville Predators have drafted back there in the last 10-15 years. Fenton was interviewed right after the pick and wouldn’t shut up about how smart Johansson was on the ice. Hopefully that translates onto the NHL ice.
So now we wait to see how it plays out. The Wild currently don’t have a second round pick but they have (3) third rounders.
