It turns out Jordan Greenway will be making his way to St. Paul, but probably a little sooner than he would have liked.
Greenway was probably hoping to visit St. Paul to play in the frozen four next week, but those plans were put to rest when his Boston University Terriers lost to the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday. Barely 12 hours after that happened, Greenway signed a 3-year entry level deal with the Wild.
The former 2nd round pick of the Wild is known as the best prospect in the system. Greenway most likely would’ve signed with the Wild after last season but with the Olympics not taking NHL players, he knew he could put it off a year and check off a major accomplishment on any hockey player’s wish list.
But now he’s signed, sealed and delivered in a Wild sweater. He will most likely be making his debut against one of the best teams in the league, the Nashville Predators. Talk about getting thrown into the fire. Where he will fit into the lineup? This is all just pure speculation, but I would guess the third line has a spot for him. Greenway is a mammoth of a man at 6’6″ and over 220 lbs. The good part about his game though is his talent along with his frame. He’s going to become a fan favorite pretty early on I would guess.
Hopefully he gets those butterflies out of his system in the first period or so in Nashville, because we’re going to need all the help we can get down the stretch. The Wild currently sit 3rd place in the Central, but only sit 4 points from 9th place. The logjam is VERY real with teams like St. Louis (who I may have prematurely danced on their grave about a month ago…), Los Angeles and Colorado all playing really good right now. A guy like Jordan Greenway can feel like you just picked up a big piece in a trade deal but without giving anything up.
