Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Is Worth The Hype

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 did what most franchises fail to do, provide a sequel that’s on par with the original.

The first GOTG was Marvel’s heat check. Following The Avengers and follow up films for Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, GOTG was the first big budget comic book movie that involved characters that weren’t known outside of hardcore comic fans. It was a huge success and almost did $100 million on opening weekend and did over $700 million worldwide for the box office.

That was back in 2014, four years later we have the second installment of the franchise, which is adequately named Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Without giving up too much of the movie, I’ll try to elaborate about why the sequel kicked ass.

To start, Marvel didn’t get too cute and change up directors on us. James Gunn was back directing GOTG2 and left us with the same feel of the first movie. Don’t fuck with what works, and Marvel had a good thing going with Gunn and let him do his thing here.

The soundtrack was a huge topic of conversation after the first GOTG, as the nostalgia got turned up to 10 for most people. Volume 2 has a great score as well. Does it stack up to the first movie? I don’t think so, but that’s like asking if Kirby Puckett was as good as Harmon Killebrew. Both are top of their game, but sometimes the original wins.

The story itself for Vol. 2 is a little messy, but the dialogue and comedic tone by far makes up for it. I went to a late night Friday night show that didn’t get done until after 1 am, but that place was completely engaged throughout the entire film. Baby Groot and Drax, must like the first Guardians movie, steal the show when it comes to laughs. Hats off to Marvel here also, they are going to sell a SHIT TON of Baby Groot toys. Vin Diesel has the easiest job in hollywood when he scored this roll. Just stroll into the sound booth and rip off a couple different versions of “I am Groot” and collect massive paychecks.

So without giving anything away, if you’re looking for a fun movie to kick back and enjoy, go check out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and you won’t be disappointed. Just be sure to sneak in those Junior Mints.
