UFC 204: Bisping vs. Henderson 2 Preview

UFC 204

“I think that last one was just to shut (Michael Bisping) up a little bit.” -Dan Henderson, after knocking Bisping out. No, I didn’t pull out my crystal ball and look ahead to Saturday night. That was seven (seven!) years ago at UFC 100, as Henderson talked with Joe Rogan after his victory over Bisping. Whether or not Henderson shut Bisping up isn’t certain (okay, spoiler alert: he didn’t), but Bisping had damn sure done a lot of talking. Prior to the fight, Henderson and Bisping coached opposite one another…

UFC 201: Lawler vs. Woodley Preview

UFC 204

“If I hurt (Conor McGregor), I wasn’t taking his neck.” What were you gonna take? “His soul.” If that doesn’t sum up UFC welterweight champion Robbie in a nutshell, I don’t know what does. That quote from the champ came in early June in an interview with The Fight Life featuring Lawler and Tyron Woodley, who Lawler will defend his belt against this Saturday at UFC 201 in Atlanta. Give credit to Woodley for keeping a straight face during that portion of the interview, but no one would have blamed…

UFC 200 Predictions

With all the craziness that has unfolded this week leading up to UFC 200, Jon Jones being pulled from his main event fight with Daniel Cormier, Eddie Alvarez unseating lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos with a flurry of first-round punches, and Anderson Silva replacing Jones against Cormier- it’s been a little hard to keep track of, especially considering I am working every goddamned night this weekend. But thank god for those Mondays through Wednesdays off, right? In any case, though the event kicks off in just a matter of minutes, here are…

Jon Jones pulled from UFC 200

“Jon Jones, get your sh*t together, I’m waitin’ for you!” That was his only message.  After defeating Anthony Johnson via submission at UFC 187 last May, winning the light heavyweight title vacated by Jon Jones in the process, Daniel Cormier had nothing else to say. It appears that Cormier may have to wait a little longer. Cormier and Jones were set to fight in a rematch this Saturday, in the main event of UFC 200, but late Wednesday night it was announced that Jones had been pulled from the event after…

UFC Fight Week Preview, Part 1

UFC 204

International Fight Week Preview Part 1                 For the second time in 8 months, the UFC is holding three events in three nights this weekend in Las Vegas, culminating with UFC 200 at the new T-Mobile Arena. The weekend includes 5 titles fights (four undisputed titles and one interim title), as well as the return of former UFC champion Brock Lesnar, the UFC debut of former Bellator champion Will Brooks, and shockingly, no Ronda Rousey or Conor McGregor. McGregor was expected to headline UFC 200, but in a well-publicized spat…

A better opponent for Conor McGregor? ¡Sí!

Recently, rumors have circulated about a potential boxing match between UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor and former five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather (which two of the panelists on Friday’s episode of ESPN’s Around the Horn predicted McGregor would win). For my money, the fight is never going to happen. Mayweather is retired (a word that doesn’t mean much in combat sports, I know), and McGregor is still under contract with the UFC, who would undoubtedly use their veto power to prevent the fight from happening. But as long as we’re throwing…

UFC 197 Recap- Jones, Johnson both dominate.

UFC 197 is in the books, and  the two best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport (in this writer’s opinion) continued their runs of dominance. With a unanimous decision victory over Ovince St. Preux, former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ (22-1, 16-1 UFC) made a triumphant return to the Octagon on Saturday night. Jones defeated St. Preux (19-8, 7-3 UFC) 50-45 on all three judges’ scorecards, capturing the interim UFC Light Heavyweight belt in the process. Jones showcased his trademark variety of kicks and elbows, took St. Preux down multiple…
